ACIDE VALUE

The acid index in most essential oil, is under regulation. For lavender and lavandin, the acid value has to be under 1 mg of KOH required to neutralise 1 g of oil. Acid index assay is done according the protocol from ISO 1242 (T75-103).

PEROXIDE VALUE

The peroxide value is a parameter specifying the content of oxygen as hydroperoxide in a substance. Natural essential oils containing D-limonene and/or du linalool (or other unsaturated compounds) should only be used when the level of (hydro)peroxide value is kept under 20 millimoles of active oxygen (O2) per litre (IFRA, code of practice).
